Lol, This is such a hard question for me. I mostly play rpgs so I don't really have a favorite character. Then again I probably reading way too much into this question. All the nintendo characters are really lame and underdeveloped (once again reading way too much into this). At least for side characters i would have to go with Joker from ME and Isabella from DA2 just cause of their humor.

I mainly play RPG's too, so picking a character that I like most out of those genres is really tough, since RPG's tend to have characters that are a lot more developed and have different personalities, other than just being different sprites and sound sets. xD

I play far too many RPG's, my "short list" would be like, 20 characters. xD

Well, I'll go through all the games I can think of that impacted me in some way and had a character that I took a liking to for one reason or another: Leon for all of RE, because RE4, the best game of the series (and all time); Yoshi only for super Mario World (but I don't like him anymore because he's a ****er in SSB (and start getting used to the parentheses)); Mario for Melee (**** to the yes, bitch); R.O.B. for Brawl (not a real game, but lol R.O.B.); Kratos because you need to hate him (and you love it (and his games kick aassss)); Sephiroth because (period); Baraka (MK2); Noob Saibot (MK3); Akuma for MvC3 (because his spin kick is lol, a lot of other characters are awesome in that game... except not Chun-Li, which is unfortunate, it's a well-balanced game where almost everyone has something fun about them); Chun-Li (SF2); Blanka (SF4); now, regardless of my history/childhood with the character, and the quality of game the character was in, my favorite video game character is....... uhhhhh... Greg the Grim Reaper, Conker's Bad Fur Day xD (Conker was cool too). There you go guys, hope some controversy and/or discussion comes from this ;)
