    Simfile Judging

Hey guys, as I'm sure all of you noticed simfile judgement is lacking a little bit. My goal with this thread is to find out why we have so many simartists, but so few want to judge files. What is it that keeps you guys from wanting to do it? Lack of time? Feel inexperienced? Is there anything in particular that would make you more inclined to judge simfiles? Let me know and maybe we can figure something out to get some more action going on up in here ^_^

It would be super awesome if we could have a few more people that were dedicated to judging so that the files could need to receive more like 3 or 4 accepts before going into game. As we've seen with a few charts, something will get released and the community will not like it very much. If a file has to get more accepts that just means more people have approved of what's going in game. Think of it this way, you all are the ones playing the game, so why not judge the content you're going to be seeing in game? Plus I'm sure when you all submit a file you'd like it judged fairly quickly right? The more of us that work together as a team, the faster these reviews can be out for all of us.

Anyway, before I just go babbling on, I can't wait to hear what you all have to say and lets motivate!

The proper way to handle simfiling judgment is to work as a team, but a team can't exist when only a few certain people are stepping in occasionally. I am definitely curious to see why certain people don't like to or want to judge, because ThirdStyle definitely has a few simfile authors with a very strong and memorable style of charting and it'd be cool to see their ideas and thoughts about what's good and what isn't.

StepCloud is also important to me, but that's something that is planned to be featured as a part of the site soon enough, so I won't mention that, as it's not necessary.

I approve of this thread, by the way. A discussion about how to rally up the simfilers (or those who don't have a title) and get them more motivated is certainly a step in the right direction.

It pretty much all boils down to time for me. I would be judging more if i wasn't so hun over trying to keep my grades in order to stay in school and such. Needless to say, not much can solve that, and that's probably why I've been taking forever to step as well. Judging feels awkward to do in multiple sittings since i tend to forget about it, whereas stepping can be done piece by piece and still be somewhat enjoyable, whereas judging feels like an essay that you're required to do when you don do it in one sitting. Inb4 just do it in on sitting, but again, time-wise i invest my time doing school stuff slowly and at a pace I can control.

I'll start judging more in the summer, but in the school-year I'll be pretty stressed on time.

    Spoiler!

oh, also - I'd like to include that I wasn't referring to you or Derek, since I know you two are very busy with schoolwork and I respect that entirely.

Soon as school ends I'm going to try to start judging. I'm still having trouble picking out stuff while I'm stepping so I'm not sure how useful all be at first, but hey got to start somewhere.

I'm sure we'll help you along. ;D It's a team effort, so we can all cover for each other in trying to point out absolutely every issue. Or, even better, absolutely every positive aspect.

I review songs I like and steppers I like. For me, I'd accept anything based on flow and fun-factor. So I avoid disregarding file accuracy. And focusing purely on fun.

You should try using the newer Review backbone that AJ, Kayla, and I have started utilizing more, it'll help you to more accurately decide what a passing file is or not, rather than eye-balling on fun factor and flow. Two big things for a file, but they aren't the only things.

Yeah, I'm just busy doing other things, but I enjoy judging files. Usually all it takes is someone to ask for my help and link me to the thread/stepcloud, and it'll be done as soon as I see it.

Seems the biggest issue is time for everyone, makes sense with school and stuff. But I'm thinking, since there's several of us maybe even a commitment from everyone to do 1 file a week and work together as a team to get files 2 judgements. Do you guys think that's possible to fit into your schedules and something you'd want to do? Submissions aren't all that high as of right now anyways.

But you may not think something is fun that others will find fun and vice versa. That's why we always try to be objective rather than subjective cause everyone has different tastes.

Shiki you need to get your head out of this whole "subjective judging" thing. If you can't pick up on objective problems in a chart rather than just subjective things such as "fun", you should take the time to enhance your knowledge of stepping and possibly ask some other judges their secrets before judging anymore charts, it's not fair that a chart gets an accept purely on fun and flow and others get rejects from you because its "fun" isn't enough for you. If a chart has little to nothing objectively wrong, it deserves the verdict it needs.

I'm about to be graduating high school really soon here so judging files haven't really been my main focus for the past few weeks. Once I graduate though I'll have a lot more time to actually contribute and help out with judging on here

I also don't haven't confidence in myself when it comes to judging (especially since I don't even have confidence in myself when it comes to stepping either).

I should have time to judge some stuff by the end of May.

i will say, i'm not that good of a judge, especially if a song is something that i don't enjoy listening to, which may be a reason why i don't judge too much. but the more that i realize that we need more committed judges, the more i feel guilty for not doing anything . i will definitely be more active in judging files now that summer is almost here, and i feel as if i have a fairly good understanding of what to do now, so yay

    Haha XD

Well we're down to only two charts in queue, so we def could use some help banging out some of these judgements. Even if I go through everything it wont matter cause someone else needs to too. So if like a few people could pick one of the files to judge like nocturne get one and Ian pick a different one, etc. That would be a huge help.
