Stop SOPA .. its lame and a waste of time and resources better spent elsewhere

Guys, these last few weeks have had the entire ThirdStyle team swamped with on site and off site activities. However, just want to be clear that a large number of ThirdStyle stands AGAINST SOPA and does feel that its a bucket of pure legislative poo being drummed up. Something tells me we are better up and talking about it in this case, as the team is all over the place this week.

In any case may the big boys rapidly drop this silly bit of paper to the ground and move on with actual important issues at hand here in the US please!

I agree, SOPA is just ridiculous. So many people have adjusted to depending Google and many other websites every day, and you can adjust back to living without it, but it really wouldn't do anything but make people mad. All of the copyright business on the internet isn't even that big of a deal, i don't see it as much of a conflict at all. They really have no reason to be doing this

Glad you guys are standing against this. <3

If SOPA passes, it'll be bad even for us here in the U.K.! D:

And where would I get my anime and manga from!?

And I'd have to buy 10,000% more CD's!

    This is an outrage!

It's not just SOPA we need to worry about, we gotta worry about PIPA too.

SOPA's looking like it's gonna be stopped, so we'll see what happens :)

Yeah that will just cause some kind of power abuse. I'm not there but against it.

The pirate bay have said that SOPA will not prevent them from operating. TPB, as far I understand, have already switched to systems which 1) removes the need of a tracker and 2) removes the need of storing torrents, the torrent is downloaded from another peer.

So this means that even if the site is blocked, your download is not stopped. Secondly the whole site only contains hashes which takes up much less space, so it is even easier to make a proxy site.
(I'm not fully into these systems yet, so correct me if I'm wrong with anything.)

In the end they can't prevent piracy with SOPA. We have decentralized solutions for sharing files legally and illegally which cannot be blocked this way because there is simply no central server to block. And they are not even theoretical solutions to start using, they have been put in practice for years already.

They will only be able to prevent the small fry, but the risk for society is huge. There is too much control of what content is allowed in one place so it is way to easy to abuse it. Just see what happened with the MegaUpload song! A company uses 3 million to create a promotional video and it is taken down because of a "copyright infringement" which didn't exist.
Just a day after the strike against SOPA MegaUpload was taken down without even allowing the owners to defend themselves. Will this hurt the pirates? Nope, they will just move to somewhere else. However it hurts a lot of their legal users, which used it for sharing data with their family and colleges, both for private and for work related reasons.

SOPA is yet another childish act from the media industry which will only hurt the common people. If this law still passes considering the uproar there have been this past week, it will make me doubt the American government and how it is ruled. I haven't heard a single citizen support SOPA, yet I have heard endless people go against it not only from America but from all parts of the world.

The internet wins for now, I'd look out for another SOPA like bill sometime in the near future though.

Oh, sick. \o/ Just PIPA now, I guess. I doubt they'd every really be able to pass something like this, though. I heard Obama had sworn to veto it if it passed?

Actually PIPA had the same fate, or it will just be postponed for a long time.
