Last wednesday, had my worst set of the year... 546. But came back last night with a shot at 800; went 268, 248 first 2 games... then started spare, 5X. longest i've ever had a shot at 800... but wound up going 3 spares and an open to finish the game, 216. 732 series. 4th 700 of the season, to go with 3 500s. Most annoyingly was that after the 268 (9X and 2 7-pins), our lane broke and we had to move. So my 1st ball of the 2nd game was on the 1st lane oiled of the night... and it was flooded. Missed the head pin. Wound up going spare-strike-spare-5x-spare-double in the 2nd game... took me 3 balls to adjust to the flooded left lane (right lane was playing like the old pair). Cost me as much as 30 pins because of the move... but once I figured out the left lane, had 6 strikes in a row on it between end of game 2 and start of game 3.

I'm now averaging higher in my Tues league than Wed; 218.14 vs 218.1.

As far as highest series... 761 (244, 217, 300) was non-sanctioned, done on 1 lane. I think my 740 a few weeks ago is my highest sanctioned series (bowled nothing but sport leagues or non-sanctioned leagues since 2002). Highest sport series is 690s (we bowled 4 games, so hard to track just the 1st 3... think I had an 875 for my highest 4-game). Not sure which pattern that was on, but probably Viper, as that's always been my best.

Nice 300. I'm still looking for one of those. Should get one soon. Yeah it was open bowling but we used two lanes so it was like league play in format and I bowled with my old bowling friends from the past which was fun.

I'm joining a league again in January up where I go to college now. I'll be bowling regularly once again. I'm looking forward to it.

Nice. From about 8-16, I bowled 1 league. Junior/Senior year of HS, I bowled 2. Then I didn't bowl a league during college (bowled a few times a year, when I was home). Was about a 195 bowler in HS. When I came back and bowled a league after college, I booked 208 (and was around 215 for the 2nd half of the year). Then I moved to LA for 3 years, bowled nothing but sport leagues, and had hand issues almost the entire time (broken ring finger, tendinitis in my middle finger... averaged high 180s despite these issues). Took almost that entire last year off to heal. Then moved back to the east coast and am bowling 2 leagues this year, Tues/Wed... 218.12 ave over 34 sets (102 games).

Missing 21 games, but in the past 81... I have 14 250+ games and 20 under 200 (makes sense when 200 is only -18 and 250 is +32). Across the 34 sets... 3 under 600, 12 601-649, 15 650-699, and 4 700+. Can't complain too much, I guess. :)

Have 1 sanctioned 300, from my Junior year of HS, at 16. And then that 1 unsanctioned. 2 total. No games in the 290s.

Short term goals: 300 game and clean series.
Long term goal: 200+ average this year.

I sincerely am more impressed by a clean series rather than a 300.

lol... not for me. i'm a consistency bowler. I grind and fill frames... hope to get enough strikes to get a decent game. I've had like 7 of my past 8 sets have at least 28/30 X or 9s. Almost had back to back clean 30s (messed it up in the 9th frame of the 3rd game of the 2nd series). Think I had 60-some total clean frames in a row between those 2 sets + the one prior. Had 1 open each of my sets this week (in the 30th and 27th frames, respectively). 269, 217, 180 on Wed for a 666.

also had a nice string of ~30 straight 7-pin conversions (including 14/14 in 1 set... that night sucked; 15 strikes, 14 7-pins).

The first time I ever bowled was when I was 8 or 9 and I got somewhere around 190. Now I'm lucky to break 120...

Just shot a 791. Best series ever.

1st game, 247: XXX 9- (left a weak 7-pin and then my foot slipped when i went to shoot the spare) X 9/ XXX XXX
2nd game, 290: 9/ (light mixer, all the pins shot to the right, none took out the 10-pin) XXXXXXXX XXX
3rd game, 254: XXXXXX 9/ (decent half-hit, messenger came across into the 7-pin but didn't knock it down) 9/ (little too much hand, high hit, left 6-pin) 9/ (solid hit that was a bit flat, left a wobbling 5-pin) XX7

Needed either the 7th or 9th frame of the 3rd game to carry for an 800. Or not to have slipped on the 4th frame spare attempt of the 1st game... but who would have known I'd have had a shot at 800 at that point?

Overall, 17 strikes in a row between 2nd frame of 2nd game and 6th frame of 3rd game... that's a record for me. 23 strikes in 24 throws is also a record (6 to end game 1, 10-pin in 1st frame of game 2, 17 in a row). I am pretty sad that I didn't get my 1st 800, as I have no idea when I'll ever have a night like tonight again... but I can't be too upset with my best series ever. I got crazy good carry, although I was hitting high flush on almost all my shots... few half-hits that still easily carried out the 7-pin and a few high-hits that took out the 6 or 8 pin.

more like, damn snow resulting in a slightly slick approach. and, not about the clean series... about the fact i'd have shot 800 if i had converted it. :(

but yeah... i'll take 29/36 strikes. and nothing no-tap through 1st 35 balls (kinda relaxed and didn't focus on my fill ball of 3rd game, since i knew i didn't have 800).

this is twice now i've had a shot at 800 late in a series... one of these times i'll get it. before, it was 26 frames and finished with 740 (3 spares and an open). this time, it was 28 frames (finished 3 spares and a double). i was definitely nervous in the 7th frame of the 3rd game; knew i was 2 strikes from being in the 800s and also had front-6. then next 3 balls were all a little off.... and focused back again in the 10th when there was no longer any pressure. oh well.

Wed ave is back over 220. Tues is down to 216.9. Up to 5 700s on the year.

I decided keeping track of my scores for this year. I bowl Monday nights when my lil bro has league.

1/3/11: 183, 211, 153 Avg. 182.3
1/10/11: 164, 219, 146 Avg. 176.3
1/17/11: Lil bro's league bowl party. Played 9-pin bowling.

Overall avg. so far 178.83

Those last games killed my average. Keep in mind my avg during the summer was around 155. Getting better.

Nice. Tikle: any idea why you're having an average game, a good game, and then a bad game? i have 2 or 3 ideas as to why... but is there anything you've noticed? would like to hear your logic on yourself before i give a few possible explanations.

Also, had a 695 last night; So far have 3 700s and 3 690s on Wed, and am over 221 ave in that league. On Tues, however, I'm in the 215s... I think the reason is 2-fold: 1) it's a 4-man league (Wed is 3-man), so the pace is a bit slower. 2) I can't stand 2 of my teammates (the 3rd is my father)... and pretty much hate everyone else in the league. This means I'm bowling in a perpetual state of pissed-off. Possibly 3) the overall competition is higher on Wed, so I have more motivation (i'm 2nd in average on Tues, I'm 6th or 7th on Wed).

You don't get 10 minutes of practice before game 1? Also, make sure you're making adjustments... the lanes will break down on you a bit over the course of 3 games.

Tikle: ah. you should ask if you can get practice... depending on who's working, whether you're nice, etc... they might give it to you (set it up on the league 10 minute timer for ya).

ddr: i kid, i kid. i guess the real question... does she average 220? cause chicks that can bowl... instahot ;-) or, i go the other way, and frown at the fact that i loft the shit out of the ball. i know. :( it's because i don't bowl "correctly"... that is, with fingertip fingers and full thumb (which is what basically 100% of top bowlers do, sometimes w/o the thumb). i bowl with full fingers and a fingertip thumb. and because of that, if i lay the ball down smooth, i can't get any hand on the ball; gotta loft it to get the rotation.

She averages around 180, but this is only the 3rd year she has done league so i would say shes improving quite fast. She throws a striaght ball though and does not use any of the arrows or oil on the lanes, so not sure how much she can improve. I think she also lofts the ball because she only uses a 10 or 12 lb ball.
