ThirdStyle's First [UN]Official Tournament!

Basic Information:

Yes, this is ThirdStyle's first Official Tournament. This tournament is unofficial unless the admins provide permission for this to be ThirdStyle's first official tournament. It's their call; I'm not going off on my own and claiming BS I can't hold on to.

This tournament is open to all players of all skill levels. In fact, newer players are encouraged to join. You'll be able to talk to players of your skill level and pick up tips from the top players. Plus people always gain experience quickly in tournaments; in old FFR tournaments, with the lower players, the winner was normally the player that got better faster, not the best player.

The tournament will be run using in-game songs from ThirdStyle, in the ThirdStyle engine.

This Official Tournament is being run by GHEZ119 (http://www.thirdstyle.com/profile/GHEZ119), kisler (http://www.thirdstyle.com/profile/kisler) and xMUSICxMASTERx (http://www.thirdstyle.com/profile/xMUSICxMASTERx).

This tournament [u]will have a bracketing system, bracket lists and information to be revealed with the first round. For those that are new to this, this means that players will be competing against other players that are around their skill level.

We have decided that this tournament will be league-based. Rounds will last 4 days; there are 10 rounds. Competing in all rounds is not mandatory, however, prizes will be awarded on a per-round basis and the amount of StylePoints you earn for participation will be dependent on how many rounds you compete in. Competing in every round will, also, give you a better chance of winning.

If you think you won't be able to compete in a certain round, then please PM GHEZ119 (http://www.thirdstyle.com/profile/GHEZ119), kisler (http://www.thirdstyle.com/profile/kisler) and xMUSICxMASTERx (http://www.thirdstyle.com/profile/xMUSICxMASTERx) and we will arrange something with you. This may be a late entry with a reduced timespan of 1 or 2 days or it may be an early entry; we're flexible.

This tournament will contain unorthodox rounds; while there will be some purely score-based rounds so the lower level players can improve over-all, part of the aim of this tournament (for us) is to encourage people to try and play ThirdStyle differently and with new targets. It's meant to be fun rather than the generic daily grind of AAA'ing or trying to improve your scores.

Prizes:

Prizes will be awarded in the form of StylePoints.
If anyone wishes to donate StylePoints (once V4N implements the gifting system), then please send them to GHEZ119 (http://www.thirdstyle.com/profile/GHEZ119) with a PM, wall post or forum post detailing that they are for the tournament.

All donations will be factored directly into the Prize Pot for the tournament.

Competitors will receive StylePoints merely for entry; you don't have to win to be in!

Rounds and Scoring.

You can update your score as many times as you want.

Round 0 - Entry.

Entries are still open until the end of the tournament, but you can't compete in earlier rounds you've missed.

Round 1 - The Zero Round.

Try and get your average accuracy as high as possible over the following four songs by Zero:
-La Lune Du Minuit Eternel.
-13 Reasons.
-Mean A Swing.
-Xanthystrauma.

Bonus Round: Do a video commentary of one of the songs from this round explaining why it's your favourite.

Round ends Tuesday 14th June at midnight GMT. - Round over.

Round 2 - The Thrills And Trills Round.

Try and get as many Goods as possible over the following three songs per Division:
D1: Thy Hero Within, Blackout City (130 Speed Mix), Paper Doopliss. (Easy)
D2: Way Of The Samurai, The Girl Oceanic, Under 18. (Medium.)
D3: Inevitron, Lullaby De Amor, The Only Medicine. (Hard.)

Bonus Round: Do a video of you playing one of these songs pettanko. (ring and pinky fingers.)

Round ends Saturday 18th June at midnight GMT.

There will be 10 rounds, each lasting four days.

Okay, I'll clear up a few things that people have said to me:

No one is being forced to play.

If I get three players battling it out on Easy who progress to Medium AAA's by the end of the tournament, they've gained experience and that's good enough for me. I don't need a metric ton of players posting 12 scores per hour; but I wouldn't object to it. Feel free to compete; feel free to not compete.

Ultimate Diss is not the sole factor that will be used for potential grouping.

I will group players looking at their statistics and their recent gameplays to ascertain a feel of how well they're playing. I have played the majority of charts on the site multiple times and I'm knowledgeable enough with the way the statistics and everything else works to determine general skill groupings for players. The main purpose of Ultimate Diss is to see whether you fail it, pass it, do well in it, etc., so I can get a rough image of general skill levels. This is not solid at all and if someone managed to luck out and do well on Ultimate Diss with extreme mashing (Rank #2), but was bad with other, easier charts they wouldn't be guaranteed a place in a group of high skill levels.

I know how this tournament will play out. (regarding rounds, etc.)

I haven't posted official structures for two reasons:
a) I have multiple structures I could go with depending on the number of entrants; and
b) I want the tournament to be kept a surprise for the most part.

1 - We have a running order of rounds with goals, songs and whatnot selected. You guys will be surprised, trust me. <3

I will definitely be donating AT LEAST 4,000 total StylePoints to the tournament. Any donations (once the feature is implemented) that are sent to me with a PM or a forum post saying that they're for the tournament, will be added to the pot. I'm really sorry about this, but my brother spilled juice on the laptop today. :/ Everything seems to be working fine; except the trackpad. It's almost impossible for me to move it, I've had to get all the way to this post, comment on a wall post and reply to a message with just the Tab key to navigate pages. D:

Okay guys, I'm here and I have functionality of my trackpad back, thankfully. (I have a mouse in case though, just as a back-up.)

I'll update the first post now and add in people I've had messages from too. Great job Amy and kisler. :D

EDIT: I've updated but I only have 35 too and I've put in people that messaged me. D: I'll check the spreadsheet and fix any discrepancies. (Either that, or I can't count. D:)

Also, the home computer should have internet back up and running by Friday at the latest. It's only a 1.80GHz Single Core (parents aren't very tech savvy), but it runs better than this laptop for the most part, so I'll probably be able to fix up some scores and shit. :B

For a big surprise and Bonus StylePoints, there will be a bonus video challenge each round. We're doing this for two reasons:
a) It's funny.
b) You get to publicise your favourite rhythm gaming website by adding to it's small supply of YouTube videos. Isn't that great? :P

Also, it would appear there will be 3 "player tiers for the tournament, which is unlikely to change unless we encounter a large shift in users.

Tier 1 will be playing Easy.
Tier 2 will be playing Medium.
Tier 3 will be playing Hard.

If when we post the tier lists, you feel there is a mistake and you'd like to be moved, you must contact us ASAP and we'll re-review you.

We used this to determine rough brackets and checked your statistics on your profile and latest gameplays, etc. to decide full "Tier Listings". We have song "sets" chosen. :P (You have to play more than one per round, yayyyyyyyy~)

However, the target for each round isn't maximum score, so the songs that have been chosen have been chosen specifically to be in a certain "group" (contain a certain aspect such as handstreams (hypothetical, there's no handstream round), have minjacks (again, hypothetical), be long, "endurance songs" (once again, hypothetical. xD), etc.) so that they fit the requirement of the round.

Spoiler: The first round is for score. There are 2 or 3 score rounds, I think. I can't remember off of the top of my head. xD

EDIT: Okay, so theoretically it's not exactly for score, but in fairness, it's more or less for score, so... *shrug*

I'd be completely fine with being bumped down to Div. 2 if needed :P I wouldn't mind staying in Div. 1 though because I usually play on Hard difficulty, once in a while I'll touch Medium (i.e. Speedcore 300) I'd definitely be more BALANCED in Div. 2, I agree with Falco on that one XD Guess we'll see how this round turns out, adjust Divisions maybe next round?

i tried to keep replays to a minimum.. i don't like grinding songs to death.
i couldn't do a video, but i'd like to point out 13 Reasons is my favorite song on this site (Creatures ov Deception is a close second) and 2 of my 3 AAAs on this site are from that song. (:

Yeh I'm definately no where near as good as some of the other guys in Division 3, in fact I have very few Hard FC's let alone AAA's. I think my skill level is pretty similar to most of the people in division 2, so I would definately be more comfortable doing medium difficulty songs. Yeh, I tried Xanth on hard just then and got absolutely destroyed >.<

I definitely think Elvok would be better in Division 2, he wasn't someone I considered moving. Plus his latest scores show a Lune Du Minuit Eternel AAA on Medium.

6 divisions is far too much and we just didn't have enough of a spread for 4. Jonny; this isn't FFR, we don't have 1,000,000+ members of a large level of spread.

One of the mentalities that kept me with 3 divisions was that only 3 of the rounds are purely score-based and one is percentage-based. Of the other 6, there are challenges that many of you might not have even though of trying before, unconventional methods of playing. This means that the pros won't have such a large lead and there'll be more of a competition in the divisions.

We didn't take these placements lightly and rush through them and we have our reasons for placing you all where we feel you should be. I myself would've liked to play Hard, but the goal was to make a more interesting competition rather than to feed people's egos and have everyone just playing what they wanted. These are the divisions that we feel will make for the best competition and the most interesting competition.

For now, we will move Elvok back down and give Xcetra the choice of whether he wants to play Hard or Medium. If there's any more issues, just send me a message and me, kisler and Amy (if she's back online) will discuss it and get back to you. Sorry for any inconvenience~

EDIT: My laptop is installing major updates, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to post a score or do anything else today.

Quick question... Completing the objective is 100% of the round score correct?

Say someone get 1000-0-0-0 and another 950-50-0-0, they both get 100% for that song in the round?

Are all songs equal in value for deciding the round?

passing 3/4 songs is better than 2/4 songs, but what if the 3/4 songs is different from another persons, is it the same score for the round?

Should I even send in a score with 1 zero, or one with no zeros?

Yeah, I'm sorry for any confusion. Your raw score for this round is the average of your PA across all four songs.

So, for example, if Kye AAA'd 13 Reasons, La Lune and Mean A Swing and got 99% PA on Xanthys, he'd get a 99.75% average, which would be his "raw score", so to speak. It was a pun, but it kind of failed. :B

The idea is that the optimal PA, 100%, contains two zeros. Yeah, we're derps, sorry about that, guys.

To use a real example, Falco has 100%, 100%, 100%, 99.65% so his current "raw score" is 99.9125%.

Again, sorry for any confusion. :B Obviously, you are aiming for AAA's because of the 100% PA they provide, but for example, a 0-0-1-0 would actually be a better PA than a 4-0-0-0, even if the Boo was exactly halfway through the song, drastically reducing your score.

Wow, there's some nice scores in here now. o_o I came back to find the spreadsheet about 3 times more full than it was. o_o

Like kisler said to Krayz, anyone can compete in later rounds if they want, you won't receive your bonus SP for participating though and you'll have a hard time reaching the top of your division (presumably) if you miss a few. xD

So if you want small amounts of easy SP (enough to buy Fast Turtle at least. ;O), then just post crappy entries for the round if you've not got time. xD

This round ends in 15 hours and 18 minutes. Good luck to anyone yet to post a score or those people still trying to improve~

EDIT: Due to the whole "compete in later rounds if you miss one" thing, I'm just keeping everyone's name on the spreadsheet and if you're a blank, you're a blank. I won't message anyone that's dropped out, but they're free to come back in if they wish.
