NYT had an article about a man's journey to set a U.S. Memory Championship record. (here, if you care) (http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/02/20/magazine/mind-secrets.html) And it linked to a game where you memorize as many random words in 5 minutes. (http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/02/20/magazine/memory-games.html)

Now, I have a pretty horrible memory and I managed to memorize only 27 words. I'm curious to see how well others do, and their approach to this. After reading the article, it seems like there are plenty unique approaches to memorize things, and I'd love to hear yours. I just did the random words challenge, as I have no idea how to approach the random numbers section :P. Hopefully enough people can spare 5 minutes of their day to make this interesting, and maybe we could all improve on how we memorize random info!

If you care:
For me, I took the not-so-unique approach of making the words into a story. For example this: http://i.imgur.com/0H5l4.png
became the following story:

A man in jail was visited by a singing quartet who snuck a shoehorn to the man, who was in fear of his ass chocolate being disturbed by his bunkmate who rolled around in a wheelchair. The man escaped in a caravan and found a chipboard in the speedometer (I had troubles fitting chipboard in anywhere). The man who escaped was a killer who murdered a man that whistled. The man got out of his caravan and enjoyed the beach where he saw a seal. His footprints were imprinted on the sand. On his way back to the caravan he stood next to an apple tree where a Space Cadet sat, playing his keyboard (omg jem reference). The man implemented his elbow and returned to his caravan. From there he visited the entire earth, even the great dunes. He returned home where he saw a cop laugh (didn't know what copha was, so I went with "cop ha") at a child who fell on the ice. The convict landed a job at Subway where he frequently made oregano cakes. And then.. I forgot the story and just remembered caterpillar and elevator. :P
